UW-Stout's Masters of Science degree in Applied Psychology will give you the applied research and data analysis skills to prepare you for a wide-range of careers in business, education, non-profits, and other areas.

Three Concentrations:

  • Industrial/Organizational Psychology » Examine the behavior of people at work in group settings in the areas of employee motivation, personnel research, recruitment and selection, and job design methodology.
  • Evaluation Research » Use analytical methods and data-driven decision making to assist businesses, non-profits, and government organizations in assessing the effectiveness of programs/policies, determining organizational and client needs, and measuring the integrity of program implementation.
  • Health Promotion and Disease Prevention » Apply psychological principles to understanding and remedying real-world health problems, through promoting health and preventing disease.

Admission Requirements

General UW-Stout Graduate School Application

All prospective graduate students at UW-Stout must follow a standard application process through our Graduate School. Beyond that, each graduate program has specific requirements that must be met to be successfully admitted to the program:

Program-Specific Admission Requirements


To be admitted with full status to the program, you must fulfill the following:

  • Earned a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Evidence of undergraduate preparation in psychology.
  • Minimum of 15 undergraduate psychology semester credits.
  • Minimum of 5 semester credits in research methods.
  • Minimum of 3 semester credits in statistics.
  • Demonstration of written communication skills required for success in graduate studies.
  • GRE scores are preferred, but not required.

Note: Deficiency in undergraduate course preparation does not preclude admission, but may require additional coursework to complete the degree program. Students who do not meet these requirements may be accepted on a provisional basis.

    • Research paper 
    • Professional document
  3. Statement of interest which should include:
    • Why you are interested in the MSAP program
    • How the MSAP aligns with your professional goals

    • One must be from a faculty member
    • Additional letters of support from references are welcome but not required

    A Promising Job Outlook

    According to U.S. Department of Labor data, the job outlook for many fields relevant to the MSAP is bright. There is a growing demand for data-driven decision-making in the private sector, as well as in many settings within education and government fields. Numerous occupations, such as Health Educators and I/O Psychologists, are expected to grow at a rate much faster than the national average for other industries.
