Rich Church, UW-Stout

Rich Church

First-Year Admissions Counselor - Southern Wisconsin & Illinois

Office Remote: Milwaukee Area

As an “Army Brat”, I grew up in a lot of different places before attending UW-Stout as an undergrad. Upon earning my degree, I moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for a few years before returning to UW-Stout to earn a graduate degree. I’ve spent many years as an academic advisor/recruiter for online and transfer students before returning to my alma mater in this role as an Admissions Counselor. I like to be active in the outdoors (hiking, snowshoeing, jogging) and volunteering for local arts organizations where I live in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Advice for a new student:
Goodness, where to start? Try new things! Seek out new opportunities and stretch your legs, who knows how far you will go! Study abroad if you can, try new foods, make new friends and ENJOY discovering your potential, your passions, and your future!

College Major/Minor:
I have a BS in Human Development & Family Studies as well as an MS in Guidance & Counseling.

Why did you choose your major?
I switched majors after my first year, as it just wasn’t the right fit for me (completely normal!)  After taking advantage of some resources on campus, I found a major that resonated with me personally and I enjoyed studying.

What do you love most about UW-Stout?
How unique it is. Our polytechnic advantage provides hands-on training that prepares you for your future career.  It’s small enough to make you feel like you belong, yet big enough to bring you the world.

My favorite thing to do in Menomonie is…
Tubing down the Red Cedar River on a hot summer day.

A random fact about me...
I’ve been in both (Old) London, UK and New London, WI in the same day!
