Fall, football, family, food and fun. Add it all up, and it’s the first Fam Jam weekend at University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Fam Jam has been created to encourage family members of students and others to enjoy a fall visit to campus, similar to the university’s spring Family Weekend, according to Nick Distasio, external relations and promotions coordinator for Blue Devil Athletics.
He hopes to see it become an annual event and expand.
With fall colors near their peak on and around campus, the Blue Devils will host UW-Stevens Point for a 1 p.m. state conference football game at Williams Stadium. UW-Stout players will wear special uniforms that pay tribute to the military.
Fam Jam includes:
- At 11 a.m., a tailgate party in the parking lot north of the stadium will feature live music by the Cutaways and food trucks.
- The game also is the annual Heroes Day celebration, with free admission for current and former members of the military, police and first responders, with appropriate ID.
- The university’s Army ROTC program will have a swearing-in ceremony at halftime.
- Also at halftime, the university’s dance team will feature a performance with local children from the Kids Clinic.
At 10 a.m., the Blue Devil women’s soccer team will host UW-Whitewater. The game will be played in Eau Claire because of ongoing renovations at UW-Stout’s Nelson Field, including the addition of artificial turf.

Also on Saturday, the Admissions Office is hosting several events for prospective students: Stout Saturdays, Transfer Days and International Student Day. Free application week at UW-Stout ends Saturday.
