How to set up your eRefund account to receive tuition refunds in the case of withdrawals, course drops, overpayments, and other situations.

Refunds for Withdrawals and Course Drops

When a student withdraws from the University, their eligibility for a refund — and the amount of that refund — is determined by how much time has lapsed in the semester. Please refer to our refund schedule to determine your refund.

Refunds for tuition fees paid are prorated according to the length of the course and the number of weeks a course has been in session.

Setting Up Your eRefund

eRefunds are a convenient, reliable, and secure way to process your tuition refunds. Students can designate a U.S. checking or savings bank account and have refunds deposited directly to that account from their UW-Stout student account.

(Note: the "Complete eRefund Set-Up" hold does not block registration.)

To set up your eRefund:

  1. Visit the TouchNet website.
  2. Enter your UW-Stout username and password.
  3. Under My Profile, click on Electronic Refunds.
  4. Enroll in Two-Step Verification, click on Security Settings.
  5. Select a Two-Step passcode method.  Enter applicable information. Click Send Code.
  6. Enter the passcode received.  Click Verify.
  7. Under My Profile, click on Electronic Refunds.
  8. Click on Set Up Account.
  9. Select an existing account or set up a new account.  Click Continue.  If you select an existing account, you are done.  If you select set up a new account, continue to step 10.
  10. Select either Checking or Savings from the Account Type drop-down menu.
  11. Enter the 9-digit routing number for your bank.
  12. Enter the account number for your bank.
  13. Confirm your account number by typing it again (returned accounts for any reason will result in a $20.00 return fee).  Please do not copy paste.
  14. Enter the full name on the account.
  15. Enter your address information.
  16. Enter a note to yourself to indicate which account you used.
  17. Click Continue.
  18. Check the box for "Agreement authorizing UW-Stout to deposit funds."
  19. Click Continue, and you should see confirmation that your eRefund account has been successfully set up.

Please note: Authorized Users are not able to set up eRefund accounts. They must be set up by the student.

Refunds for Overpayment on Student Account

In the event of an overpayment on a student account, UW-Stout will pay any past-due charges with Title IV funds, state funds, scholarships, private loans, or personal payments. The remaining overpayment will be returned to the student’s account. See your Student Account Contract (SAC) for additional information.

Subsequent changes made to your course schedule will likely result in additional charges or refunds. Any refunds that occur because of schedule changes will be refunded to the students e-Refund account or to the student.

Repayment of Financial Aid If You Withdraw

If you withdraw from UW-Stout before 60% of the semester has been completed, the University is required to determine the amount of your Federal Financial Aid (other than work-study) that must be returned. The amount of aid you may keep when you withdraw is in direct proportion to the length of time you remained enrolled during the semester. You may owe a repayment of your Financial Aid even though you are not eligible for a refund of your tuition. The University will notify you of the dollar amount owed.

Even if you do not complete the formal withdrawal process and just stop attending class, these rules apply and you will be billed for any balance due and any financial aid repayment required.
