Hands-On Analysis

UW-Stout's Instrument Lab offers a comprehensive facility designed to enhance students' understanding of analytical techniques and their applications in various scientific fields. This lab provides an opportunity for hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment, enabling students to gain practical skills essential for careers in research, industry, and academia.

Students use various instruments to isolate and extract proteins from beef liver cultures through dilution.

UW-Stout's Instrument Lab plays a critical role in our middle and upper intermediate courses and supports a range of analytical techniques and applications. Students utilize sophisticated equipment to conduct experiments in water testing, organic chemistry, and molecular analysis. The lab’s resources, including the atomic absorption flame spectrometer and GCMS, enable detailed study of metal concentrations, molecular separations, and compound identification. Our fluorescent spectrometer and FTIR provide additional capabilities for studying fluorescence and molecular structures. The lab’s comprehensive equipment list and real-world applications make it an essential learning environment for aspiring scientists and researchers.
