Types of On-Campus Employment Opportunities: 

Federal Work Study
  • Work study is a need based financial aid award.
  • If you have submitted a FAFSA and "Federal Work Study" is listed on your award letter, you have the opportunity to apply for work study employment and earn up to the amount of work study awarded.
  • The work study award is not a guarantee of a job; you need to apply for jobs and complete any hiring processes that may be involved.
  • Once you are hired, a work schedule is developed with your employer to best fit your class schedule, possibly including nights and weekends.
  • A paycheck is disbursed (by direct deposit) every two weeks for the hours you work. You will receive bi-weekly electronic earnings statements via your UW-Stout e-mail account.
State Payroll
  • A form of on-campus employment.
  • Any enrolled, degree-seeking student can work in a student assistant position, even if not awarded financial aid. The FAFSA submittal is not required to pursue this type of position.
  • Once you are hired, a work schedule is developed with your employer to best fit your class schedule, possibly including nights and weekends.
  • A paycheck is disbursed (by direct deposit) every two weeks for the hours you work. You will receive bi-weekly electronic earnings statements via your UW-Stout e-mail account.
Graduate Assistantships
  • Graduate Assistantships (GAs) are paid positions at UW-Stout where you also have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience.
  • You are eligible for a GA position if you meet all of the following criteria: admitted to a graduate degree program (dual-level and non-degree seeking students are not eligible), enrolled in at least six graduate credits each term, and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 each term.
  • GAs do not include a tuition waiver. However, non-resident students who hold at least a 0.33 FTE position are not charged the non-resident portion of tuition.
  • GAs are considered a form of financial aid
Grow, Persist, Succeed (GPS) Program
  • Student-focused skill building program aimed to develop career readiness competencies through on-campus positions
  • A paycheck is disbursed every two weeks for the hours worked.
  • Positions are open to first-year, second-year, and transfer students.
  • Program is managed by the Career Services Office.

In your role as a student custodial staff member you will clean assigned areas of the Memorial Student Center/Merle Price Commons. Cleaning consists of wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, sweeping, dusting, cleaning glass, and assisting our professional custodial staff with cleaning projects.  Student custodial staff also assist with meeting space setup and tear down of tables and chairs for events.

Instructional Resources ServiceStudent Customer Service Rep. Position Summary This position assists the full time Instructional Resources Service Staff in providing textbooks and related materials to students/staff both on and off campus. Major responsibilities include customer service, inventory control, resource processing and general office management duties.Job Duties 1.     Check items in and out for customers through the online system in Access Stout.2.     Provide direct customer service both in person and on the phone.3.     Pick up and deliver mail to full time staff in the office.4.     Processing, shipping, and packaging resources for distance education students at the beginning of each term.5.     Notify students when resources are ready to be picked up, mainly through email but also on the phone.6.     Assist with closing duties when working until close.7.     Help with training new employees when they are hired.8.     Processing new books as they are delivered to the office or picked up in the mail.9.     Assist with maintaining inventory in the stacks which includes shifting books, taking out withdrawn books and adding in new texts to the shelves.10. Miscellaneous projects from full time staff.11. Operate the computers along with office equipment (examples: tape gun/dispensers, label making machines, printer/copier and sensitizers) 12. Utilize the online system through Access Stout to manage inventory online, add new books, create barcode labels and look up textbook information for students/staff.Miscellaneous Requirements 1.     A non-standard work schedule to meet the circulation needs at both the beginning and end of the semester, which includes increased hours along with extended evening hours.2.     The ability to work with various cleaning chemicals (ammonia, isopropyl alcohol, etc.) to clean computers, office, books and stacks area.3.     The ability to lift and bend with boxes weighing up to sixty pounds. 4.     Ability to work through summer, winter, and other breaks.
